Each day we women make choices that affect the lives of millions.  It’s time to realize our impact on the world and to claim our role in the significant impact we are making. Only, when we claim with strength the power we hold, will we be able to fully live this power in the world.  Sometimes I think others believe more deeply in us than we do in ourselves.

We women deliver so many riches and gems to the world daily and I don’t just mean the midwives.  We deliver joy and hope, protection, care and compassion, intelligent solutions, nurturance and deep relationship building.  For years I’ve been closely watching how CARE, The Hunger Project and Women Deliver have chosen to invest strongly into women and families.   For years the Grameen Foundation,  as well as others, have invested microfinance funds in women with a 97% average return on their loans.  Women are concerned to see prosperity, good health and hope readily shared, as we are the ones who birth life. 

It’s now time to evaluate the choices we are making in our own lives that lead us to be the most we can be.

We are all working to achieve a life well lived.  Be it in the work we do, the contribution we make, or the legacy we leave behind.  We are all at different stages of life, many, with different objectives.   Consciousness begins by developing our ability to clearly hear the messages that come to us from within.  Some messages give us information like a basic hunch, some like a lightning bolt some like an epiphany or a wake-up call.  Our ability to listen to these messages and to integrate them into our actions provides us with a basis for conscious living.  If we could entertain the thought that our “self” has a higher place where it operates we could begin to experience a greater flow in our lives.  It is my belief that my higher self is consistently sending me suggestions and ideas that link me to the greater purpose of my life.  Sometimes these suggestions are very subtle but when I listen and follow this guidance I notice that fascinating changes occur that inform me how to use my skills resources and capabilities.  It is in the quiet moments when I move away from busyness that this, critical information is revealed to me.

So how does all of this relate to Conscious Choices?  Try this.   Start today by noticing the guidance that may be coming through daily that maybe you didn’t notice yesterday.  Clearly listen to any messages that come from within.  Notice if you sense a driving power or informing sense guiding you.  If so, be sure to listen and use the information that you are given.  Allow yourself to screen things that may be imposed by the busy mind.  This stage requi res discretion.  Make choices that incorporate both your inner sense of knowing and you rational mind.

Around the world, more stories are being written about change.  As Ghandi said, “We must be the change we want to see in the world.” For me this has always meant that I must look at the things within myself that need to change to improve in order for me to make a meaningful impact on the world.  

In 1994, Rwanda once again made the news with the genocide that killed more than 800,000 people, most of whom were men and boys, leaving Rwanda’s population at 70% female.

Fast-forwarding to 2008: “The economy has revived and is holding steady. Major road arteries between cities and outlying villages, which were destroyed, have been rebuilt. Today, the Rwandan lower house of Parliament is nearly half female, the highest percentage of women in any parliament worldwide. Girls are attending school in record numbers.

The women of Rwanda are behind one of the most inspiring comeback stories of national transformation in recent history. And while their story is dramatic, it’s not unique. Indeed, in the field of international development, women have emerged as the not-so-secret secret to changing the world.

As former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has said, “If there is one lesson we in the United Nations have learned over the years, it is that investing in women is the most productive strategy a country can pursue”–to raise economic productivity, improve nutrition and health, and educate the next generation.””

When women begin to understand the natural gifts and talents we hold, claim them and use them we will gain a strength and contribution that will bring the feminine forward in the world in a way that has never been seen.  The time is now.

 Now as 2009 ends is the perfect time for you to choose the behavior and actions that will support you to get the consequences you truly desire.  It is time for women to be who they really are by bringing forth their unique attributes and gifts.  The world desperately needs their compassion, their ability to see the whole picture and work for the good of all.  We have seen over the past year what happens when we strive towards individual gratification, whether the individual is a person or a corporation.

Women have a natural ability to lead while they value peace.  We are most comfortable in environments of harmony and are often ones to create harmony and peace in our work environments and in life.  In no other time in history has it been as crucial for women to build businesses and live lives that reflect these very important core values and gifts of the feminine.

What you imagine you can create. Within our imagination we hold the power to recreate our lives and manifest far more than we believe on a day-to-day basis. The art of manifesting includes one’s ability to clearly define a desired outcome or way of being and to believe and work towards this on a daily basis.  Setting a clear intention is the first step in creating a new reality.  Never be afraid to think big and design this new reality to include things that both feel good and provide you with opportunities for growth. We often beaver away in our own world, viewing life from a set of limited lenses.  Expand your vision to include seeing the world in a whole new way.

 There comes a time in life where we know we have to take ourselves to the next level; the next level of adventure, accomplishment, exploration or achievement. When this feeling sets in we often feel a questioning of our abilities to take our life to the next level-whatever that may look like for you. Some may chose never to move past a certain level of development or living and remain in a state of entropy. It takes great self-confidence to move throught theses challenging times; to stretch ourselves and move to new levels of living expression or achievement.  It is easy to spot those who old back and show a lack of confidence, as this lack of confidence shows up in the words they speak, the way that they hold their body and the way that the repel rather than attract others. Today’s economy and the state of the world can shut people down and make them question their self belief. On the other hand, these times that we are living in can offer one an opportunity to stretch beyond limiting thoughts and beliefs and to live with a new level of confidence. What’s your choice?

 The clearer we become about what our life is meant to express, about our talents and our gifts, the more powerfully we will be able to attract allies, guides, friends, and supports to help us on our journey.  When Socrates spewed the famous quote, “know thy self,” the importance of his words carried throughout the ages. I believe that this quote carries such importance because as humans unless we “know thyself” we miss a tremendous opportunity to live fully alive lives, to create at a truly high level and to manifest and contribute in powerful ways. The first true step to powerful manifestation is to truly know what we value what we believe and what we would like to create. From this simple knowledge we can go forth into the world with this powerful inner-knowing and understanding and manifest far beyond what we ever envisioned.

It is amazing to think that we all live on the same planet. The more research that I do on feminine attributes and the differences between masculine and feminine communication the more I realize that it is a miracle that the planet holds as much peace as it does.

In the past twenty years or so, we have read many works telling us what we already knew. Men and women communicate differently. In her book, The Female Brain, Louann Brizendine cites very specific chemical and hormonal differences between men and women that specifically affect language and communication, giving us a scientific basis for this. It is in these exciting times of change that we, as women, need to discover these specifically feminine qualities and attributes in ourselves and appreciate, develop and use them. As recently stated by Susan Taylor, Editorial Director, Essence “There’s a new world on the way, and it starts with equity: progressive people, women and men, coming to the table and making peace.” Women cannot gain equity until they learn to appreciate and value what they and they alone can contribute to our world; contributions that have been in the background for too long.

Faith Winter, Outreach and Training Director of The White House Project and Westminster City Councilmember put it succinctly when she said, “It is imperative that…women…step up into leadership at this moment in time. Their input is critical in order for us to solve … pressing challenges, from the budget and economy to education and health care”. That input needs to come from our feminine gifts. As women, our voices need to be heard. The world is crying for what we have to offer. How do we break the confines of the past? By taking small steps, if necessary. 

•    Notice how you speak to the men in your life.
•    Observe when you feel listened to and when you don’t.
•   Speak up; be clear and work towards clear communication and speaking your needs.

All this adds to the development of a harmonious world.

For over 20 years, I have successfully mentored powerful women leaders from around the globe to create and expand innovative businesses that authentically reflect their core values. I have steadfastly based my work on my strong belief that our emerging world culture needs, and is now demanding, that women step into their rightful power and leadership roles. The imbalance in our world between the masculine and feminine principles is causing the anxiety, unrest and upheaval we see around us. Our world society is based on power and control, the masculine principle and the suppression of the feminine attributes we all possess.  Hope for the world lies in bringing forth the feminine principal and creating a balance of the masculine and feminine.

 In a recent ezine article, Sanjay Kali points out that “The rise of womanhood is closely attached with awakening the feminine in all of us. The lead in this direction has to come from the womenfolk. Only if you come together as one unified force can we think about the rise of a new era based on the feminine principle of life. You are the natural carrier of the feminine principle. This is the core of my personal self-discovery, research and work with women.   I am so excited to be getting information out to women on this subject. I realize that we often live from not knowing our feminine strengths or demeaning them. I look forward to the day that we own our strengths and special gifts so that the world will be different. I’ve been working on a new webinar “Creating and Living with Influence and Success from the Feminine Perspective” to help women discover their strengths. We are collaborative, caring, compassionate, and powerful. We now need to live and lead with these gifts.
